What is mesh reinforcement?

Reinforcing mesh is made from welded metal wires and is used to reinforce concrete structures like slabs and walls. Flat sheets of reinforcing mesh are usually produced in a rectangular or square grid pattern. Plain concrete cannot withstand the various stresses caused by external loads, forces such as winds, earthquakes and other vibrations. Reinforcing mesh helps reduce the amount/size of cracks in concrete slabs and walls, promotes effective load distribution, improves fire resistance and adds tensile strength.

Where can I buy concrete reinforcing mesh?

There are many reinforcement suppliers across Australia. Bestbar is one of Australia’s leading suppliers of ACRS steel mesh reinforcement. We have delivered a broad range of reinforcing mesh solutions to clients in the civil, commercial and residential construction sectors for more than 25 years. You can buy reinforcing mesh from a number of Bestbar locations across Australia, including East Rockingham, Wangara, Adelaide, Darwin, Prestons, Truganina, Keysborough and Somerton.

How much reinforcement mesh do I need?

Firstly, you need to calculate the area of your concrete slab. To do this, simply multiply the length of the slab by the width. Length x Width = Slab Area (m2). Now that you have your area calculation, you need to divide the area by 12.5. This will give you the number of steel mesh sheets required to reinforce your concrete slab.

How is reinforced mesh manufactured?

Reinforcing mesh is made by welding ribbed steel wires at right angles, resulting in either square or rectangular spaces. The size and configuration of the mesh can vary based on the diameter of the wire and the spacing between the longitudinal and cross wires.

Do I need reinforcing mesh?

Reinforcing mesh is utilised in concrete construction to provide structural integrity, and it is employed in a wide range of projects, from backyard patios to high-rise buildings and infrastructure ventures.

How do I prop up reinforcement mesh before pouring concrete?

Position the reinforcement mesh in the allocated area on top of plastic bar-chairs to raise it slightly. Place the bar chairs in pairs, along the entire length of the trench.
